    Reasons to Love This

    • These burgers are a healthy dinner option. They are packed with lean protein and are in low in fat.
    • These healthy burgers are juicy and flavorful! The spices combined with the dry ranch mix create the perfect flavor profile in this burger.
    • The burgers are easy to make! Simply throw a few ingredients in with the ground turkey, mix and cook!

    Ingredients Needed

ingredients lying flat for healthy turkey burgers.
    • Ground turkey: I used the 93% lean ground turkey. This is the leanest version of turkey I would use (the 97% lean turkey does not hold together as well).
    • Soy Sauce: use tamari or gluten free soy sauce if needed for allergies.
    • Dry Ranch Seasoning Mix: adds flavoring to the burgers. Make your own homemade ranch seasoning or purchase a packet at the store.

See recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

    Recommended Toppings

We all know the classic burger toppings: lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, ketchup and mustard. Below are some additional ideas of topping combinations to put on the burgers.

    • The classics: lettuce, tomato and onions
    • Avocado and sprouts
    • Cheese- Pepperjack, Cheddar, American or Swiss
    • Sautéed Portobello mushrooms and onion slices
    • Cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce
    • Avocado and onion
    • Mayo and pesto
    • Top with a sauce such as dill aioli or chipotle lime sauce.

    Step by Step Instructions

4 step instructions on how to make the burgers.

Step 1: Combine all dry ingredients together in a bowl (ranch seasoning mix, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper). Mix well. Add your ground turkey to a large mixing bowl. Add the seasonings and the soy sauce. (Image 1)

Step 2: Use your hands or a spoon and mix until evenly combined and no seasonings are dispersed evenly amongst the meat. (Image 2)

Tip: these can also be made by adding all ingredients into a large gallon zip lock bag, sealing the bag shut and then mixing from the outside. This is an easy, mess free way to make the burgers!

Step 3: Shape the meat into 4 burger patties. (Image 3) Tip: push down on the center of the burger with your thumb. This will help the burger cook more evenly. Chill for 20 minutes before cooking.

Step 4: Preheat grill over medium heat. Place the burgers on the grill. (Image 4) Cook for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through. Burgers are done when they reach an internal temperature of 165F.

    Expert Tips

    • The burger should cook to an internal temperature of 165F or higher. Check the thickest part of the burger using a meat thermometer. Make sure the tip of thermometer does not touch the grill or hot pan. Here's a helpful chart on safe cooking temperatures.
    • Batch cook these burgers by doubling or tripling the recipe and eating them throughout the week. They reheat well and are very moist and flavorful.
    • To make these burgers "mess free": add all ingredients to a gallon sized ziploc bag, press out air and seal shut. Mix with your hands by squeezing the outside of the bag.
    • To make the burgers in the oven: Preheat oven to 375F. Grease a pan with nonstick spray. Place burgers on pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until they reach 165F.
    • To make the burgers on the stove: Heat a frying pan or grill pan over medium heat. Add a small amount of olive oil to the pan. Cook the burgers for about 6-7 minutes on each side. This method works best when burgers are thin (thick burgers will take much longer to cook).

    Recipes FAQS

    Can turkey burgers be healthy?

Yes, turkey burgers can be healthy! Select a lean cut of ground turkey, such as 93% lean ground turkey. This will make it low in fat and a great source of protein. Additionally, choose nutrient-dense toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, and avocados to enhance the burger's nutritional value.

    Are turkey burgers processed meat?

If turkey burgers are made from fresh, ground turkey, they are not considered processed. Some premade turkey burgers are processed. Check the nutrition label to find out more.

What is the leanest ground meat?

Ground turkey breast is generally considered the leanest option. It is often labeled as "extra lean" or "99% lean" and contains the least amount of fat. Ground chicken breast is also a lean choice, typically labeled as "98% lean" or similar.
