Ingredients Needed
Why These Ingredients Matter
- Turmeric and Black Pepper: Turmeric contains curcumin, which is known for it's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. Curcumin is poorly absorbed on its own. Add black pepper, which has piperine, to make curcumin more bioavailable and to boost absorption! Note: there are risks to curcumin, as discussed in this article. Always consult with a medical provider!
- Lemon & Oranges: these are both loaded with Vitamin C, a nutrient essential for immune support.
- Ginger: Ginger’s active compounds, like gingerol, have been shown to reduce inflammation and support digestion, both important for overall health. This study outlines the additional health benefits of ginger.
How to Make the Wellness Shots
Step 1: Peel and chop the ginger and turmeric (if using fresh).
Step 2: Remove the peels from the lemon and oranges.
Step 3: Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender.
Step 4: Blend until smooth.
Step 5: Strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth. You may need to pour it through the sieve several times and press down with a spoon.
Step 6: Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Shake before using.
Substitutions
- Lime juice: Use in place of lemon. You can also use bottled lemon juice as a shortcut.
- Maple syrup or agave works instead of honey as an added sweetener
- Use ground ginger if you don’t have fresh ginger, use about 1 teaspoon of ginger spice.
Expert Tips
- It's important to have a powerful blender (affiliate link) to break up the ginger root and citrus fruit.
- Use gloves when handling fresh turmeric to avoid staining your hands.
- Make a batch at the beginning of the week and store in small jars or shot bottles.
- These taste best chilled. Store in the fridge and serve cold. I store them in these 2 oz bottles!
- Straining is optional but makes the texture smoother.
- Use within 3-4 days. Freeze leftovers in ice cube trays if you don't consume in time.
Flavor Variations
- Orange Immunity Shots: Add ¼ cup fresh orange juice.
- ACV Shot: Add 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar for digestive support.
- Green Boost: Blend in a handful of spinach or kale.

Drink 1–2 oz first thing in the morning, before eating. You can also pour it over ice or add a splash to sparkling water for a wellness tonic.

Recipe FAQ's
Immunity shots can support your immune system, but they’re not a magic bullet. Many contain anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich ingredients like ginger, turmeric, and vitamin C, which may help reduce oxidative stress and support immune function. However, your immune health depends more on consistent habits (like sleep, hydration, diet) than one shot a day. Think of them as a supplement, not a substitute. There is no guarantee that these immune shots will provide immunity.
Many immunity shots are formulated for adults and may contain ingredients too strong for children (like concentrated ginger or cayenne). If offering to kids, check with a primary care provider first.
No. Strain only if you want a smoother texture, especially with fresh ginger or turmeric.
These are best consumed within 2-3 days of making them. You can freeze them to help them last longer.
